Why Los Cabos Belongs on Your 2026 Travel List

If you are craving an escape that blends luxury, natural beauty, world class dining, and unforgettable coastal scenery, Los Cabos should be at the top of your 2026 travel list. I recently returned from a stay in this stunning corner of Mexico, and it reaffirmed why travelers consistently rank it among the most captivating destinations in North America.

Los Cabos is made up of two neighboring cities: San José del Cabo and Cabo San Lucas. San José del Cabo sits on the eastern side of the Baja Peninsula and has a relaxed, artistic, and more local feel. It offers outstanding restaurants, charming streets, and a Thursday evening art walk in fall that brings galleries and studios to life. Cabo San Lucas on the western side is livelier, more commercial, and closer to the cruise port. It has a denser feel, energetic nightlife, and plenty of activity for travelers who prefer a faster pace. Despite their differences, the two cities are only about thirty minutes apart along the main resort corridor, which means you can enjoy both atmospheres very easily.

During my visit I toured six properties across the corridor, each offering distinct takes on the elevated Los Cabos experience. I also chartered a boat to see the iconic Arch, watch the sunset over the Pacific, and spot sea life in the waters where the Sea of Cortez meets the ocean. This region is known for breathtaking marine biodiversity. Thousands of fish species thrive here, along with sea turtles, rays, jellyfish, dolphins, and migrating whales. Each winter the Baja coastline welcomes Gray Whales, which travel great distances from colder waters to give birth and nurse their calves in sheltered lagoons.

A lesser known fact about the destination is that Los Cabos has relatively few swimmable beaches. Strong currents and dramatic shorelines are part of what make this region beautiful, but they also mean the calm, gentle beaches found in other parts of Mexico are not as common here. For many travelers this is not a drawback. The scenery is striking, the pools are exceptional, and the coastline feels wild and cinematic.

Travelers will also find that Los Cabos is an elevated market compared to some other Mexican destinations. Its location at the end of a desert peninsula creates natural exclusivity, and many of the area’s resorts focus on luxury, privacy, and exceptional dining. Personally, I found the culinary experiences in Los Cabos to be some of the best in Mexico. Beyond the resorts, there are dune buggy adventures, nearby towns to explore, snorkeling and scuba opportunities, farm to table restaurants, and desert and ocean landscapes that feel unlike anywhere else.

No destination is entirely risk free, but throughout my trip I felt comfortable and welcomed. What I experienced in Los Cabos did not reflect the dramatic headlines people often see in the news. The locals were warm, professional, and incredibly proud of their region.

If Los Cabos is calling your name for 2025, I am here to help you plan a seamless, elevated escape to this beautiful part of the world. The people of Los Cabos are ready to welcome you whenever you are ready to explore.
